BINDERY & FINISHING
Perfect Binding

Want a classic look at an economical price? Smith-Edwards-Dunlap (SED) offers perfect binding as a viable option that easily lends itself to a variety of printing formats. SED, Philadelphia’s preferred commercial printing company, offers perfect binding as one of our many bindery and finishing services.  With our perfect binding capabilities, covers are attached to the spine of the assembled signatures with a flexible, durable adhesive for a professional style.

To deliver excellent, consistent finishing results with efficiency, SED’s commercial printers utilize a state-of-the-art Sulby Collator-Perfect Binder equipped with 12 in-line stations. With this setup and equipment we are able to streamline production for shorter runs to meet and often exceed client deadlines. By offering perfect binding we are able to expand our client base from Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland to locations across the entire United States.

Advantages of SED’s perfect binding include:

Classic, professional look
Versatility
Printable spine
Durability
Visual appeal

Perfect binding is often referred to as “soft cover,” which resembles paperback novel binding. In SED’s perfect binding, first all the pages or signatures are arranged in the proper order, next the edges are roughened and flattened, and, finally, a flexible adhesive is applied to attach the paper cover to the spine.
